The voice, the studio,
the story.
More than thirty years behind the microphone. Started on pirate radio in the eighties, raised in the advertising world. What began as one spot between spinning records slowly became a craft. Then a studio. And then simply: this.
From first spot to trusted voice.
The work behind the voice.
A good recording always starts with the script. Notes, emphasis, breathing — prepared before the microphone goes on.
It began on the stations nobody had permission for. The eighties, Radio Noordzee and the Gouwe Ouwe Zender (later Veronica) — that's where I learned how a microphone works, how you hold a listener, and how to improvise when everything goes wrong at once.
In the late nineties came the move to the official world. Among others Radio 3FM — first as a DJ, soon also as a regular voice for commercials between the music. A little later station voice for TV channel FOX — the kind of work where you have to be short and sharp all day long.
From that point on, voice work became the profession. First between shifts, then full-time. The first national campaigns came naturally — clients referring each other. Not because of a polished voice, but for something simpler: it always arrived on time, and it was right.
In 2008 came the own studio. No more middlemen, no more waiting for someone else's schedule. An acoustically treated room, Neumann, Sennheiser and Shure microphones, Pro Tools. The whole technical story — not to show off, but so clients never have to think about it again.
What still drives me after all these years is something unspectacular: a voice should never ask for attention. A voice should make sure the story keeps it. Whether it's twenty seconds of TV or twelve hours of audiobook — that principle doesn't change.
No excuses for the sound.
A recording that starts out right costs less time further down the production. That's why I work with this setup.
